Mr. Butz built his business planning and operations expertise over 18 years at Bell Labs, AT&T,
and Lucent Technologies. As a Founder and Principal at seven year old Resonnect, Jim helps early
and mid-stage companies develop business and market plans, architect growth strategies and execution
plans, negotiate strategic alliances and distribution agreements, and develop functional organizations
and operations. He is currently focusing on helping companies understand how social networking/media
tools and applications are moving into small and medium businesses.
While in corporate America, he had broad responsibilities in strategy and planning, product management
and sales and customer service. He launched several leading-edge telecom technologies and software-based
solutions. Mr. Butz was instrumental in developing and implementing AT&T's computer services organization
in the early 1980's where he was responsible for developing the corporate strategy and then implementing
the field operations nationwide. His Enterprise Messaging Business Unit strategy was used in Lucent
Technologies' first major acquisition after spinning off from AT&T.
Jim was recruited in November 2006 to be a Venture Partner at California Capital Partners, a new SBIC
Debenture Fund with offices in Southern California, Silicon Valley, and New York City. This position
is complementary to his work at Resonnect.
He is active in the local technology community and has held Board positions at UC Riverside CONNECT and
the San Diego High Tech Marketing Alliance organizations. He was recently on the Program Committee of
the San Diego MIT Enterprise Forum and active in the Southern California Chapters of Keiretsu Forum
investment group.
