Since 2009, Dr. Dmitry Khanin has been serving as the principal investigator for the Orange County/Inland Empire (OC/IE) Regional SBDC Network.
Dr. Khanin is a well-known scholar in the area of business strategy and entrepreneurship.
His papers have been published in such top-tier scholarly publications as The Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science, Academy of Management Best Papers, The Journal of Private Equity, and many others.
Dr. Khanin has presented his research at numerous conferences including Academy of Management Annual Conference, Babson College Annual Conference in Entrepreneurship, Family Enterprise Research Conference, Small Business Institute (SBI) Annual Conference, USA SBE annual conference, etc.
In 2008, Dr. Khanin was named as the best scholar of the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics.
Dr. Khanin is teaching numerous courses in strategic management, global strategy and business ethics (a new course slated to start in 2011). His strategy course for CSUF MBAs is focused on consulting local businesses.
Dr. Khanin is deeply involved in the activities of the Department of Management and the Mihaylo College. He is the research coordinator for the Department of Management, Director of Research of the Center for Entrepreneurship and a member of the Research Committee of the Mihaylo College.
As the PI for the OC/IE network, Dr, Khanin's primary responsibilities are as follows:
- To represent the Dean of the College, Dr. Puri, at the SBA and SBDC-related functions and activities.
- To serve as the liaison between the Mihaylo College, the OC/IE regional SBDC network and the Santa Ana SBA.
- To connect the Lead SBDC Center at Cal State, Fullerton to numerous academic centers of excellence and work
with the Lead SBDC Center's Director, Priscilla Lopez, on finding opportunities for launching mutually
beneficial activities that could help the Lead Center to raise its visibility at the Mihaylo College and
CSUF and help the Lead Center raise cash match in addition to federal funding as required by the SBA.
- To act as the Academic 'Ambassador' for the Lead Center and facilitate the Lead Center's access to CSUF's
partners including the alumni network and make sure that Service Center Directors have an opportunity to participate
in college and university-level events that may be of interest to them and could help SBDC to become embedded at CSUF.
- As a specialist in the area of strategic management, play an active role in the strategic planning process spearheaded by the Lead Center
- Participate in Director Meetings called by the Lead Center's Director (unless there's a conflict with Dr. Khanin's teaching schedule).
- Provide assistance to the Dean and the Lead Center's Director in making strategic decisions such as continuing or discontinuing service centers' involvement with particular hosts and the recruitment process at the Center.
- Act as a consultant to the Lead Center in questions related to research that could benefit both Service Centers and the Lead Center.
- As the Research Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship, help coordinate the activities of the SBI and the Lead SBDC Center.
- Serve as a source for the SBDC network on a regional and national level.
